Also known as "poured" drinks — built drinks are the most commonly served by
bartenders.
Built cocktails
are drinks whose
ingredients are poured into the
glass in which the
cocktail will be
served. Usually, the
ingredients are poured together or on top of each other, but occasionally, a
swizzle stick or a small straw is put in the
glass, allowing the
ingredients to be
mixed by the person who drinks it.
To get the best taste from a built
cocktail, the drinks
should be stirred at least
six complete times at 360° rotations.
This is the oldest technique for preparing a
cocktail, however,
it's inappropriate for
cocktails with carbonated mixers which are not meant to be
shaken.
Tip:Ingredients
on a built drinks should never fill the
glass all the way to the
rim, else they will be easily spilled during transport or while
stirring.
